Vybuty is the homeland of Princess Olga, Igor of Kiev’s wife and the first Christian in Rus’. She is believed to be the founder of Pskov. The ancient settlement Vybuty is located at the left bank of the Velikaya river 15 kilometers upstream from Pskov. At the right bank, Church of St. Ilia the Prophet dating back to the 15th century is preserved. In 1993, a memorial sign was positioned before the church — it was a beautiful stone of granite with a tablet identifying the place as Princess Olga’s birthplace. The foundation of a huge boulder, so called Olga’s stone, is one kilometer away from the church. The stone was exploded in the 20th century. Today a memorial sign in the shape of a stone pyramid stands near its remains. It is decorated with a hammered cross.
