In the late 1700s – early 1800s this estate belonged to the Filosofovs known for , in a way, symbolizing the quintessence of Russian culture – the family were related to the Tolstoys, the Lermontovs, and the Drakes. In the centre of the estate there stood manor house surrounded with outbuildings. Positioned on a high hill, the estate domineered over the landscape, its eastern side facing the park.
