The Church of the Epiphany in Arskoe is the oldest church in Ulyanovsk oblast. It was erected in 1649, during the reign of Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich. A year earlier the boyar Bogdan Matveevich Khitrovo received an order to found a town on the right bank between the Barysh and Volga rivers. The town was to connect these rivers with the earlier-built town of Korsun and the suburbs on the Sura river. This is how Simbirsk appeared. The Arskoe settlement appeared after it. It was a military Cossack settlement, one of many along the lines of defense going from Orenburg to Saransk and intended to protect against invaders from the south.
After the revolution, the Church of the Epiphany was taken away from the believers and the building consequently housed various shops and warehouses. Currently the church is serving again, and renovations are underway.
