These stone chambers were built at the order of Pskov’s most prosperous merchant S.I.Pogankin in 1670s. His family lived there until 1711. The chambers have a complicated U-shaped layout, consisting of a three-storey and a two-storey residence buildings and kitchen premises. The Pogankin Chambers are the largest merchant residence building of the 17th century preserved in Russia. In 1900 the chambers were turned into a museum. Several expositions are exhibited there: «Painting of Ancient Pskov in the 15-17th centuries», «Silver Artwork of the 16-19th centuries», «Arts and Crafts of the Pskov region in the 19-20th centuries», «1100-year-old Pskov in Russian History».
