The Sergievo-Kazansky Cathedral is an outstanding example of the church architecture of the second half of the 18th century.
When approaching Kursk by rail fr om the South or by road fr om the East, we can see on a high hill, which prevails over the valley of the Tuskar river, the silhouette of the central part of the city and the blue domes of the cathedral glittering with stars.
The cathedral is divided into the altar, the temple, the refectory and the porch and has a form of a rectangle about 16 metres wide and 33 metres long with a five-sided altar apse. The main part of the cathedral is a two-storey building with a quadrangular frame bearing an octagonal dome with the same number of windows. In the center of the dome there is a four-colour roof lantern, wh ere the golden domes with a cross rush into the sky. Within the walls of the cathedral there is a chapel in honor of St. Seraphim of Sarov, wh ere you can take the purest spring water twenty-four hours a day.
