Founded in 1992, the NCCA is one of the first Russian state institutions specialized in contemporary art. NCCA housed in a converted factory building for the production of theatrical lighting equipment, which is today one of the most interesting examples of contemporary Russian architecture. Every month the National Centre for Contemporary Arts organizes new exhibitions; video-shows, discussions, lectures, meetings with artists, critics and curators from around the world are held on a daily basis. Collection of contemporary art of NCCA has about 4,000 items (paintings, drawings, sculpture, objects and installations, photography, artist's book, multimedia). Today NCCA is a network organization with branches in Vladikavkaz, Kaliningrad, N.Novgorod, St.Petersburg and Yekaterinburg.
