Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul was built in the period from 1890 to 1894 by the German architect Gottlieb Tsinke. In September 1894 in a solemn ceremony the church was consecrated by Bishop of Tobolsk Agafangel. After the war the building was used as a vegetable store, warehouse, sports School. In 1991 the church was returned to believers, it was solemnly consecrated by Bishop of Tyumen and Tobolsk Diocese Demetrios.
In the last years of the twentieth century restoration of the church was carried out, in 1998 it was completed. In July 2006 procession dedicated to the celebration of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul was held in Salekhard for the first time.
The church is of particular interest from the standpoint of historical structures, as construction in permafrost conditions assumes a special constructive and engineering solution. It is the only religious building of the XIX century in the city and region reflecting the history of Christianity in Siberia. It is an architectural monument of regional significance. Building height is 51.8 meters, wall thickness - 1.68 meters, height of bell tower - 51.82 meters.
