On Dvoryanskaya street, there is a building that is well-known to both the natives and guests of Lipetsk as “The House of General Gubin”. They call it so after the name of its last owner, Major General А.М. Gubin who resided in this building in the early 20thc.
However, the house was originally built back in 1830-s for the Lipetsk resort headquarters physician F.I. Turovsky. In 1837, the future Emperor Alexander II with his mentor V.А. Zhukovsky stopped here for a stay.
Today, “Gubin House” hosts the regional Lipetsk picture gallery. The building is one of the best examples of a residential house in a Late Classicism style and is protected by the state as a monument of architecture of a federal significance.
