The lacework of Elets was first introduced to the European public in 1873 at the World's Fair in Vienna. Works created by Elets craftswomen immediately attracted the attention of visitors and were highly regarded by experts.
The lace-work of Elets was awarded with diplomas and medals World's Fairs in Paris (1937), Brussels (1958), Montreal (1967) and Osaka (1970). In 1994 an the fair in Moscow, the lacework of Elets received the gold medal.
The best works of Elets craftsmen have been included in the collections of popular art and numerous private collections in Russia and Europe.
In 2000 the collector E. P. Krikunov founded the Museum of the Lacework of Elets. Both old and contemporary types of lacework are exhibited there. The Elets lacework possesses an impressive beauty and elegance.
