The S.D. Erzi Mordovia Republican Museum of Fine Arts is one of the largest cultural centers in the Volga region.
Overall, the museum's collections contain over 15,000 items. The permanent exhibition, visited every year by over 60,000 people, features the finest examples of Russian art, contemporary Russian art, ornamental arts, and works by Mordovian artists. The museum's collection includes major works by classical Russian artists, including Stepan Dmitrievich Erzi, Fedot Vasilyevich Sychkov, and Ivan Kuzmich Makarov.
In October 2014, a two-year-long reconstruction of the museum was completed. As a result, the museum now offers multi-language audio guides, free WiFi, and a system of QR codes. The informational systems use touch-operated kiosks. They can help guests take a virtually-guided tour through all of the exhibition halls, view the electronic catalogue of paintings available in the museum's collection, and learn more about Mordovian artists and their work. The exhibitions of decorative arts feature directed sound booths.
The Mordovia Republican Museum has two subsidiaries: the Memorial House of S.D. Erzi in Baevo village, and the Memorial House of F. V. Sychkov in Kochelaevo village.
