Museum of Crystal is situated in a monumantal building of architecture and art of late XIX — early XX centuries — the St. George's Cathedral. (1892-1903). The owner of Gus crystal factory, a famous Russian philanthropist and Maecenas, Yuri Stepanovich Nechaev-Maltsov (1834-1913), constructed the building.
The famous Russian architect Leon Benua (1856-1928) created the project of St. George Cathedral in Gus-Khrystalny city. Cathedral in Gus-Khrystalny city has been built during 11 years, from 1892 to 1903. The author of the project sometimes came to the city, the direct leadership led architect George Y. Levy (1856-1928), with whom Benua previously worked for 12 years. Vladimir local masters built the Cathedral. Contemporaries gave the cathedral a very high score, noting it as art perfection in the works of the famous Russian architect. L.N.Benua himself wrote: «... in this temple I put everything I could. And maybe it will be the best from all my works».
Nowadays, the Museum of Crystal named after Maltsov is the pride of the city and its historic landmark. A unit monument, combines three kinds of arts, embodied the glory of architectural creation of Leon Benua, magnificent paintings of the Russian artist Vasnetsov and Crystal wealth of old masters and talented contemporaries.
