The theater was founded in 1928 as the Theater of Working Youth, in 1937 it was reorganized as Young Spectator’s Theater. The building that the theater occupies at present was built at the end of XIX — beginning of XX century. The fact is that the building was completed at different times and small portions. First it was a hotel, then a cinema.
Until in the middle of 1980s Young Spectator’s Theater of Irkutsk became country-famous due to to director Vyacheslav Kokorin. It was him that pushed forward the decision to give Irkutsk Young Spectator’s Theater the name of A.Vampilov.
The theater has a large stock of plays staging Russian and international classics, fairytales, plays of modern playwrights dedicated to youth and school problems.
