In 1877, the Russian poet A. Fet acquired an estate in Vorobyovka village nearby Kursk from the descendants of General P. Rtishchev. It is located close to Korennaya Pustyn (The Root Hermitage) and is known for its untouched nature. In this estate A. Fet, or so-called «The King of Russian Lyrical Poems», spent the last years of his life, met famous Russian writers, artists and composers. L. Tolstoy and P. Chaikovsky also visited it.
During the Soviet period this mansion accommodated various facilities like a post office, a club, a shop, a poultry house, a workshop and a school. The annual festival «Fet Readings» is held in Vorobyovka since 1986. It always attracts famous poets and literary critics.
In 2016, when the restoration works was finished, the estate has reopened its doors to all visitors.
