Lake Teletskoye is one of the greatest natural attractions in the Republic of Altai. The lake was named after the Telesa tribes, descendants of ancient Turks, who had once settled on its shores. Locals have always called the lake Altyn-Kul, which means Golden Lake.
The area of the lake is 223 square kilometers and it streches for 77 kilometers. Lake Teletskoye is one of the deepest lakes in Russia, with a maximum depth of 325 meters. In terms of cleanliness, it is often compared to Lake Baikal (the transparency of Lake Teletskoye is up to 12-15 meters).
On all sides the lake is surrounded by high mountain ranges up to 2,500 meters in altitude. The southern and central parts of the lake do not freeze in winter, which explains the presence of many species of waterfowl. In winter, temperatures above freezing are not uncommon.
Recreation facilities on Lake Teletskoye operate year round. Lake Teletskoye is an excellent choice for those who like quiet, contemplative outdoor recreation, clean air and magnificent scenery, as well as for those who prefer active recreation: rafting and ATV ride tours are organized here.
The Artybash Ski Resort is located nearby.
