The Center of Asia Sculpture Complex is one of the «brands» of the city of Kyzyl and the Republic of Tyva. The geographic center of Asia is indeed located in the Republic. To mark the heart of Asia, this monument was erected in the early in the 20th century in Kyzyl, the capital of the Republic.
In 1964, in commemoration of the 20th anniversary of joining the Soviet Union, a new monument was created. Twenty years later, it was renovated for the 40th anniversary. A new Center of Asia obelisk was erected in 2014. It was developed by the Buryat sculptor Dashi Namdakov together with Tuvan artists.
The new obelisk ensemble consists of three sculptural arzylans, mythical lion-like animals holding a globe topped with a steeple. The decorations on the steeple depict symbolic animals interwoven in ascension to the sky. On the very top of the steeple is a «solar deer,» copied from an artifact in the Arzhaan-2 aAchaeological Complex. Around the obelisk, 12 figures of cosmogonic and animistic images making up the Buddhist horoscope are installed.
