The brothers artists Vasnetsov were born in Kirov region in a family of priest M.V. Vasnetsov.
Viktor Michailovich Vasnetsov (3(15) May, 1848 — 23 July, 1926) was a professor of painting, member of the Saint Petersburg Academy of Arts, honorary member of the Roman academy, Knight of the Legion of Honour (France). He was born in Lopyal village of Kirov region, studied in the Vyatka religious school (1858–1862), the Vyatka seminary (1862–1867), the Saint Petersburg Academy of Arts (1868–1875). In 1870s he established himself as a master of realistic, then historical and epic fairy tale genre.
Apollinary Michailovich Vasnetsov (6 August (25 July), 1856 — 23 January, 1933) was an academician of painting, full member of the Saint Petersburg Academy of Arts, member of the Union of Soviet Writers. He was born in Ryabovo village, studied in the Vyatka religious school (1866–1872). In 1878 he left Vyatka with his brother. Fr om 1901 to 1918 he conducted landscape painting course at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture wh ere many Vyatka artists studied and there was a Vyatka community there. His works on the fine art theory, scientific restoration of architectural monuments, astronomy, geology and archeology were well-known.
The monument was established in 1992 on the side of Karl Marx street, between the old and new buildings of the museum of V. M. and A. M. Vasnetsov.
