Stolby («Pillars») National Reserve Park is located in the vicinity of Krasnoyarsk. Here, in the taiga, in an area covering 47 thousand hectares, towering cliffs of bizarre silhouettes, 90-100 meters high, tower over the terrain. They were given special names for their appearance or location: «Grandfather,» «Feathers,» «Lion Gate», «Twins», «Little Elephant», and «Little Sparrows.» Some cliffs stand alone, while others form groups.
There are about one hundred rocks in Krasnoyarsk Stolby National Reserve Park. One of them, Takmak, stands out from the rest. This rock is clearly visible from the city, and forms part of a landmark view of Krasnoyarsk.
The reserve protects more than 600 species of plants, 178 species of birds, 50 species of animals, and 20 species of fish.
The reserve serves as a venue for mass sports events: «Everyone Takes a Start», Rock Climbing Festival, sports competitions of various levels (in mountaineering, rock climbing, caving, multisport, orienteering, and mountaineering).
Stolby Reserve is visited by more than 300 thousand people every year. At weekends and on public holidays, more than 10 thousand people cover the most popular route which stretches for approximately 20 kilometers.
