The 'Kolyma' natural park

The 'Kolyma' natural park is organized on July 11, 2000. It is located in a northeast part of the Srednekolymskiy district, on Kolyma river.

The territory of the park has special value for preservation of a biodiversity of the Arctic flora and fauna. It is the territory of compact accommodation of indigenous ethnic groups of the North: Evens, Chukchi, Yukaghirs. Around lakes extensive spaces with prevalence of a pine purple grass are widespread. A set of big and small lakes, swamps which are the place of concentration of wetland birds. Places of nesting and places of a mass congestion of flying natatorial bird species. Ways of migration of Sundrun population of moose. Distinctive feature of the park is existence of more than 20 archaeological nature sanctuaries. In the territory of the park the most ancient settlements of people (estimated by the period from 4 to 10 thousand years ago) are found. Both long-term settlements, and seasonal parking, workshops on production of stone tools, burials of ancient people meet.
