The Tobolsk white stone Kremlin, designed by Semyon Remezov, is the only Kremlin in Siberia. It is located on Trinity cape and towers above the lower suburbs of the town and the Irtysh river. Beneath the Dmitrievskie gates of the Kremlin runs the Pryamskoy vzvoz, a monument of engineering fr om the late 18th century connecting the Kremlin to the town below.
The Kremlin includes the bishop's courtyard, the province governor's courtyard (which housed the local administration), a shopping arcade, and a prison fortress. The main attraction of the Tobolsk Kremlin is the Sophia-Assumption Cathedral, built in 1686. I is the first stone building in Siberia. The observation deck offers a magnificent panoramic view of the town, including the legendary Knyazhy meadow, and the Chuvash Cape, wh ere Ermak battled with Kuchum.
At the present time, the Tobolsk Historical and Architectural Museum-Reserve, the residence of Metropolitan of Tobolsk and Tyumen Dimitry, and the Tobolsk seminary are located in the Kremlin.
