There is a statue in the Central Park, by which it is impossible to pass indifferently. «The Grieving Angel» is the name of the monument to the innocent victims of political repression, installed on October 30, 2006. Children and relatives of those repressed and perished in prison camps, who do not even have information on the location of their graveyards, this monument is the only place where one can light a candle, lay flowers and commemorate one’s ancestors. The Grieving Angel is surrounded by granite slabs with the names of the dead and an excerpt from the Declaration of human rights carved on them. Next to the monument, lights and benches are installed. The paths paved with red and white tiles run in three directions away from the monument, forming a sculptural composition. The Grieving Angel memorial is the work of remembrance to the millions of victims of political repression.
