The Vistula Spit is a unique natural monument, a narrow belt of terrain with sand dunes created by the wind. It separates Vistula Bay from the main part of Gdansk Bay. This is the westernmost place in Russia.
Part the Spit is located on the territory of Poland, and this part has been used by the tourism industry for a long time. On the Russian side, the Vistula Spit was high security zone for a long period, and it was very hard to get there. On the one side, this led to an almost complete absence of infrastructure. There is only a small hostel here. On the other side, the nature of the Spit has remained intact: tourists can enjoy endless beaches, the Baltic Sea, Vistula Bay, pine forests, and fields full of berries. Extreme sports enthusiasts can explore here the undergrounds of an out-of-use military base, and street racers organize races on the air-strip of the deserted military airfield.
