The house of Poklevskiy-Kozell

In the former mansion of a nobleman and «distilling king» of Ural A. F. Poklevskiy-Kozell situated the exhibition center of the Sverdlovsk regional Museum. The author of the project of the house Poklevskiy-Kozell in unknown, but perhaps the initial stage of its construction was carried out with the participation of architect M. L. Reutov, which in 1869-1884 years was the chief city architect of Ekaterinburg.

Alphonse Fomich Poklevskiy-Kozell was a wine merchant, host of mining and gold mines, and also one of the founders of the asbestos industry in the Urals and the first shipping company in the rivers of Western Siberia. His business activities in the Urals began with the acquisition of the Treasury at the end of 1850-ies several distilleries. It is known that Poklevskiy-Kozell have invested a lot of money in the construction of the railway Ekaterinburg — Tyumen. In 1885 his name was even recognized train station Poklevskaya (today — Talitsa). In addition, the entrepreneur was the prototype for several heroes of A. N. Mamin-Sibiryak — Lyakhovsky in the novel «Privaliovskiy's millions» and May-Stabrovsky in the novel «Bread». Poklevskiy-Kozell, constantly living in Talitsa, owned large estates in 17 cities and 10 villages, and 58 houses in different places, including several buildings in Ekaterinburg, the largest of which was a mansion at the Pokrovskiy Avenue (today, Malysheva street). Museum and exhibition center, Museum, which is located in the building today, introduces the history of theatrical, musical and literary life of Ekaterinburg. There is a regular local lore and art exhibitions.

Interesting fact that In March 1917, the building was occupied by the Soviet of workers and Ekaterinburg Committee of the RSDRP(b) headed by Malyshev, Weiner and Hohryakov. After the Civil war there was the Commissariat for military affairs. In the years of the great Patriotic war it worked as a defence enterprise, and in the postwar period — Sverdlovsk pedagogical Institute.
