The Kursk State Philharmonic Society is one of the main cultural institutions of the city. It unites musicians, singers, composers, choreographers of different genres.
The Philharmonic Society was established in building of the «House of Sovet of Workers and Red-Army Deputies», constructed by B. Peretyatkovich. The building was reconstructed several times. For quite a long period there was a club with a library, a theatre and the museum of V. Lenin called «The Ilyich House».
Today, the Philharmonic Society has an auditorium of 500 seats, nine dressing rooms, a stage and a new curtain. Two lobbies named after A. Pushkin and M. Schepkin were reconstructed as well as the theatre café. The interior is decorated with elegant crystal chandeliers and wall sconces.
