The «Druzhba» Lensky historic-architectural Museum-reserve was founded in 1987. The purpose of its creation was to tell about the history of Yakutia as part of the Russian Empire and the Russian influence on the Yakut way of life and culture.
On the territory of the Museum-reserve was re-established monuments and wooden architecture, the oldest of which date back to XVII century. The Museum was established on the site of the first Yakut Ostrog from 1632, which began with the history of the city of Yakutsk. The main object of the Museum — the Church of the Saviour, built in Zashiversk prison (now the building— it's a copy). Around it formed some kind of trading quarter with its ancient architectural structures.
Museum has collected more than 800 items. In 1992 the Museum “Druzhba” was officially recognized as a particularly valuable object of property of Republic. The Museum expositions tell about the lifestyle of indigenous peoples of the Far North — not only the Yakuts, but also the Evenki, Chukchi, Yukagirs. Here are collected everyday objects, utensils, clothing, fragments of horse harness. Very interesting wooden vessels for koumiss, exquisite jewelry and costumes of the eighteenth century. One of the more specific objects of the Museum — restored national cemetery. It is unique because here you can see the original tombstones, sorted in chronological order. Their appearance, as is easily seen, has varied considerably over time under the influence of Christianity.
One of the most interesting buildings in the territory of the Museum-reserve is traditional «Chora» (summer Yurt) Evenki. Another interesting exhibit — a copy of the ship of Peter Beketov, pioneer and builder of the Yakutsk Burg. The room of the refectory of the temple, as well as in the rooms of the merchant's house is opened to historical exposition. It is divided into thematic parts devoted to the Siberian pioneers, Christian missionaries, public and cultural figures. From the Museum, you can climb the hill (not far) where there is an observation tower. It looks not very reliable, but the view from the top is amazing.
