The Museum was opened in 1958 as a school museum. Gradually the exposition of the mineralogical Museum, which became popular, grew, and in 1964 the Museum was given the building of Sretenskaya church (built in 1729). In 1983 Murzinka Museum became part of the Nizhny Tagil Museum-reserve.

On the first floor Museum presents the history of one of the oldest settlements in the suburban area of Murzinka village, founded in 1639 by boyar son A. Buzheninov, its famous inhabitants and the history of quarrying in the area of Murzinka. On the second floor there is mineralogical collection, revealing the history of the first Russian deposits of precious stones. Here you can see the Murzinka amethysts, topazes, aquamarines, morions and other minerals, as well as valuable exhibits produced in other fields and old instruments of miners. Regularly the Museum is visited by tourists from the Czech Republic, China, Italy, Switzerland.

The Museum's capacity is onr group of 25 people per hour.
