This monument was unveiled on 15th of January 2013. It is located in the intersection of the city's central streets — Admiral Fokin Street and Okeanskiy prospect. The design concept belonging to Ruslan Vakulik was incarnated in sculpture due to the support of the city authorities and Vladivostok Artists׳ Guild.
The sculpture depicts the typical sailor who has just arrived from the foreign trip. This monument became the first one in Vladivostok that reflects the city's way of life and culture with the humorous undertone. You can give sailor a hug, shake his hand and get a picture with him.
One of the city's traditions is connected with some parts of the sculpture. They say if you want to attract the luck you should rub the sailor's nose or thumb.
The foreign sailor's figure symbolizes the city's folk hero, which works away at sea like the most Vladivostok׳s locals. Unveiling of the memorial to Katusha, Eleonora Prey etc. followed by the unveiling of the memorial to the foreign sailor.
