The VSUES's square is located in the very centre of the university's campus. University's management places special emphasis on the grounds maintenance. Therefore, the new species of trees and shrubs are planted here regularly.
So far, the pine tree (Pinus Densiflora) has been the only specimen gifted to the University by the Department of Ecology and Natural Resources to commemorate its own tenth anniversary.
Khasanskiy District is the only district in Primorsky Territory where singular, not dense woodlets of this pine are preserved. Ends of the pine׳s branches are densely covered with buds or pinecones. That is why this tree has unusual look in comparison with others needle-leafed ones.
Vitaliy Konchenkov — the engineer of the VSUES׳ gardening landscape — has improved university׳s square significantly. Jezo spruce is planted before main entry to the university. Abies holophylla (Neddle fir) and quinquefolia (Wirginia Creeper) are taking roots on the slopes adjoining to the sports complex «Champion». Rosa rugosa, the flowers of which are the largest one among all Rosa species, is springing up along the road running unto this complex. Manchurian birthwost (Aristolochia Mandchurian), Actinidia Arguta (hardy kiwi), and Actinidia Kolomikta are planted along the metallic fence of the campus. Manchurian maple (Acer Mandshuricum), Amur cork tree (Phellodendron amurense), Hydrangea (or Hortennsia), Ussurian Pear (Pyrus Ussuriensis), and many others plants are added to the square׳s collection. The entrance to the Stone Garden is decorated with weeping willow (Salix Babylonica). It should be noted that the relict yew has grown a little in two years at the Alley of foreign students, and the shrubs of the mock orange (jasmine) have stricken roots perfectly well. It bloomed and produced a seeds last year.
Needle fir (Abies holophylla) is planted at the Alley also.
The square is one of the favourite resting places among the local and foreign students as well as among the tenants of the surrounding houses and tourists.
