Yachting Center in Omsk is situated in the park Zelyoniy Ostrov (The Green Island). It represents a Yacht Club, where children are taught to do yachting. There are courses yacht steering for adults, the sailing competitions are organized, as well as tours along the Irtysh River by boats and yachts. There is the museum of yacht sailing in the Yacht Club where can also learn about the history of Yacht Club and the yacht Siberia. It was designed in Omsk in 1987 to take part in a sport sailing Omsk–St. Petersburg. The yacht construction was carried out independently by yachtsmen-enthusiasts of Siberian Sailing Association Faros at the Yacht Club in Zelyoniy Ostrov and was finished on May 31, 1997 when the ship first touched the Irtysh water. After the first long voyage the yacht was modified and in 2000-2001 it made a unique voyage around the world for 15 months with the start and the finish in Omsk. For the first time in the history of seafaring a sailing yacht crossed in one direction all 24 time zones, and half of them beyond the Arctic Circle, having passed through the Northern sea route without over-wintering and icebreaker assistance. The yacht «Siberia» cruise has opened a new page in the history of sailing in Omsk which became subsidized by government. And the yacht took part in the great number of unique sailings, won prizes in various competitions and international regattas. A designer, a builder and a yacht captain is Honored Master of Sports of Russia Sergey Borisovich Shcherbakov, who became a director of the newly created state financed institution of Omsk Oblast «Yachting Center» in 2002. Current fleet in Omsk includes about 80 pennants, 51 of them are motor yachts of cruiser-race type.
