The Fort Pospelov geographically is located in the Saperny Peninsula of Russian island, 150 metres above sea level on mount Pospelov. Its modern name this object received in 1903 30 August, during the reclassification. Before this Fort was known as the Temporary consolidation of the number 4.
During the construction of the fortifications were used the classical scheme of constructing fortresses in Russia at the beginning of the 20th century. Its borders resemble the structure of a slightly distorted rhombus. On the island of Russian, this was the only fortress built like «Fort Bujnitski». To some extent this project was similar to the fortifications of Port Arthur and the Far East. But due to low funding and certain difficulties with the supply of materials had to use a budget option. The model drawing was designed by military engineer Colonel N. Bujnicki. According to the plan, the main part of the fortifications was represented by earthworks and backfill. Due to lack of material the number casematerial concrete structures was reduced to the minimum number.
