Since ancient times the people of Sakha had a special way of fishing of a lake crucian during the winter period. This amazing type of fishing is called “Kuyuur”, and any similar fishing is not practiced anywhere in the world and is not repeated. Because this type of fishing is unique for the culture and traditions of the people of Sakha.
Kuyuur is a grid net with a pole, are included in the package of its components: an ice pick, a shovel and a cross board with a round opening for rotation of the tool of fishing. It is known that in Yakutia in winter the lake crucian falls into hibernation, and becomes sleepy, sluggish, and gathers in a huge number in deep whirlpools, holes of lakes.
Inveterate “Kuyuurshik” in a good time choose the successful fishing dock. The lake has to be superficial, with infrequent holes. Very deep lakes are not suitable for the kuyuur, fish in depth is not given in to rotation of a net.
Small lakes, not deep are typical for successful fishing. Old men on their conducted signs determine the place, sites that are possible for the sleepiness holes of fish. It can be bubbles in the thickness of ice, friable snow, a hollow in a snow.
Kuyuur begins with an approach of the first, warm days of February when ice gains the necessary thickness, and fish forcedly gathers to deep places of the lake. There are for fishing both old men, and children, just as there were ancestors in old times. However, in the modern, quickly developing century Kuyuur is more sports passion. Because after long, long Yakutian winter men look for a scope of movements, passion.
It is not so simply, as in the known proverb “to pull out a small fish from a pond”. It demands many efforts: the cut of almost one and a half meter of ice, emptying of snow demand patience, endurance and tranquility from the angler.
In a passion rush, anglers throw off jackets, clothes. It is rather strong physical activity. When the last ice layers are cut through, the fountain water, under the influence of pressure from depth outside escapes. There comes the most responsible moment. When two-three and sometimes more crucians jump out on an ice-hole surface together with crumbs, it is a sure sign of the fact that under this place the jamb is located.
Under the physics law, whirl of one Kuyuur does not create due force. When several anglers twirl by a circle, powerful vibration of water is created under ice — and begins to throw sleepy fish from one hole to another. Here anglers begin to pull out grids: when Kuyuur spins, sleepy fishes, crucians and minnows come up on a water surface.
