The Museum of Cossack Household is situated in the open air on a picturesque bank of the Ilovlya river, on the 79th kilometers of the Volgograd — Moscow highway. The museum presents a Cossack country estate as it would have been in the late 19th and early 20th century and displays the major features of Cossack culture: a hut, a summer kitchen, a workshop and household outbuildings that perfectly fit the local landscape.
The authentic exhibits recreate the everyday life of Cossacks before the revolution. Alongside these household articles, the «living exhibits» occupy a special place at the museum. The museum's horses contribute to the character of the Cossack estate and bring it to life.
At the Museum of Cossack Household, one can get acquainted with Cossack customs and traditions, learn Cossack songs and dances, or take part in the traditional autumn Cossack fairs and folklore festivals featuring the State Choir.
A memorial to the valiant Cossacks who protected their motherland during the Second World War is not far from the museum.
