The monument to the great pathfinder Semyon Dezhnev, his wife Abakayada Syuchyu and their son Lyubim was opened in Yakutsk in September, 2005 on the 15th anniversary from the date of adoption of the Declaration on the state sovereignty of the Republic of Sakha. Has been made in the city of St. Petersburg, sketches are made by three Yakut artists.
The monument of a happy married couple with their son on a lap is established in the new square which together with the new bridge crossing the city channel forms an architectural and memorial complex.

Semyon Ivanovich Dezhnyov (1605–1673) was an outstanding Russian traveler, pathfinder, seaman, researcher of North and East Siberia, Cossack ataman, dealer in furs. The first famous seafarer who has passed across the Bering Strait connecting the Arctic Ocean with Silent and dividing Asia and North America, Chukotka and Alaska.
