The Khatsun Memorial Complex, commemorating the war victims among the Russian civilian population, was inaugurated in 2011, the year of the 70th anniversary of the beginning of the Great Patriotic War.
The complex consists of: the monumental building of the museum; granite columns resembling the skeletal remains of chimneys of burned-down houses; the black marble Wall of Grief, listing information on losses, victims, and devastation suffered in the Bryansk region during the years of German occupation from 1941 to 1943; a grave of civilian victims of the massacre on October 25, 1941; a mass grave of Red Army soldiers; the Chapel of the Icon of Our Lady of Kazan, a memorial cross and a sculpture composition of three figures: an old man, a woman, and a child.
The museum exhibits materials depicting the tragedy of the Bryansk population and villages destroyed by the Nazis, and presenting the scale of losses among the civilian population of all Russian regions that suffered under the Nazi occupation in the years of the Great Patriotic War.
