The decoration of the main square of Saki city is the St. Elias Church.
The city, to which a huge number of people comes in hope of healing, is impossible to imagine without a large Orthodox church. The first stone of its foundation was laid in 1894 and the solemn consecration took place on the 2nd (15th) of October 1903, and its centenary was celebrated in 2003.
It is noteworthy, that three-stored 33 meters high bell tower was firstly built, and only then a church was attached. Surprisingly, the architect managed to succinctly combine different years of construction into one concept.
In the basis of the temple architecture lay the motives of Russian-Byzantine architecture. Large-scale restoration of the temple took place during all the difficult 90s, now St. Elias temple has been completely restored and took the original appearance. The dome, cupolas, carved iconostasis, magnificent interior paintings, all that had been restored.
