Initially the monument was built in Tazovsky in 1995. In 2005 it has been decided to memorialize not only perished townsmen but also those who came back from the war on their native land and worked here in the post-war years. The monument has been reconstructed and reopened in advance of 70th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
The monument is made of black marble. Names of Yamal warriors are engraved on slabs, which are placed between lanterns. An Eternal Flame burns at the foot of the monument as a symbol of Victory.Marble blocks were transported here from Yekaterinburg. The engraver was invited in Tazovsky to cut the inscription to avoid damages during transportation
