Kazantip Nature Reserve

Kazantip Nature Reserve is located in the north of Kerch Hills, on the shore of the Sea of Azov. It was founded in 1998 and covers an area of 450.1 hectares, including a strip of the sea area along the periphery of Cape Kazantip.

Skeleton of the cape is formed by an anticlinal uplift of different kinds of ancient reef of bryozoans. Marine animals, bryozoans, settled on underwater rocks of this ancient island forming colonies. Then, weathering and erosion formed a descent, a hollow, in the center of the island (anticline); Kazantip peninsula that looks similar to the annular reef, an atoll, was formed. The coast has an amazing combination of capes and coves (capes Long, Eagle, White Rock, rocks Camel, Driver, coves Warm, Affection, Wide...).

Flora of Azov coast has about 500 species of plants. On the rocks there are thickets of hawthorn, dog rose, blackthorn, elderberry, blackberry, jasmine, common privet (Ligustrum vulgare); areas of grass steppes are preserved.

In the animal world water birds are especially numeral: herring gull, black-headed gull, cormorants and common shags, etc. Underwater world of the adjoining areas is also rich.
