Monument to Nikolai Gogol

Monument to Nikolai Gogol (sculptor - N. Andreev, architect - Shekhtel) was opened in 1909 on Gogolevskaiy Boulevard at Arbatskaya Square on 100th anniversary of Nikolai Gogol’s birth. In 1951 the monument was moved to the museum of architecture in the territory of the Donskoi Monastery. But in 1959, in connection with the 150th anniversary of the writer’s birth, the monument was moved to Arbat and installed on Nikitsky Boulevard in a square in front of the house where Gogol spent his last years. In 2009, on 200th anniversary of the writer a museum of Nikolai Gogol was opened here.
